I took this photo on the walk home from the same night-out I mentioned in a previous post, I applied focal black and white in Picasa and think the result is beautiful.

The lighting in this is very pretty.
Selective color or focal black and white in this case, is sometimes overdone, in my opinion (remember it's a matter of person taste only). When I see it done in a subtle manner like this I like it better than when there is a very saturated color and the rest is completely desaturated, like a bright pink pair of shoes and completely black and white surroundings. My personal choice in that kind of shot is subtle de-saturation or subtle re-saturation of parts of the photo after converting to black and white, if that makes sense. Picasa is limited for that kind of work. Having said that, I think that the muted nature of the tones that you have in this shot work fairly well.
