I saw this handrail on my way back from a lecture today, I set my camera to Macro mode and have sharpened and increased the saturation slightly in Picasa. I think it's pretty cool since I couldn't tell you how old the rail really is, it's on one of the oldest streets in Durham. Let me know what you think.

This composition looks pretty good. It has nice tonal range and texture is decent.
I think the DOF (depth of field, or how much of the subject is in focus) is a little tight for this type of shot. I don't know how much control you have over that with the type of camera you have, but a higher f stop or aperture # (smaller opening)is how you would increase DOF, a lower f stop or aperture # (wider opening) would make the DOF more narrow or tight.
